Complete Rapid Intervention Team Training |
| December 14, 2008 |
 |
•
Eight firefighters spent their Sunday training with personnel from
Hamlin Fire & Rescue Company in completing the final 8 hours of the 16
hour Basic Rapid Intervention Team Class. During the training crews
practiced many rescue skills. Most training firefighters receive is how to
rescue trapped or injured individuals. This training session was
designed for firefighters to learn exactly how to rescue our own
personnel should they become trapped, injured or run out of air inside
of a burning structure. This class proved to be full of useful
information that will be sure to help our firefighters when they are
assigned to RIT Operations.
Members completing the training included: Assistant
Chiefs Jamie Wallace & Ben Shaffer, Rescue Captain Jason Crambo,
Firefighters Robert Benedict, Matt Bistran, Ken Notari, & Kevin Tierney.

| Change your
Clock, Change Your Batteries |
•
Its that time of year again, homeowners are reminded on Sunday November
02 while turning the clocks back to standard time for Daylight Savings
Time, to also change the batteries in your smoke detectors. Smoke
detectors should be replaced at least every ten years to ensure proper
functioning while batteries should be changed annually. There should be
at least one smoke detector on every level of your home, with an
additional directly outside the sleep area.
Any township resident in need of smoke detectors, can contact Assistant
Fire Chief Jamie Wallace at the fire company (689-2829) for more
information on how you can obtain them for free from us. Just think, of
the risk placed on families without smoke detectors... That is why we
are doing our part to continue to keep you safe. |

Takes Home Best Appearing Tanker Trophy |

•
An annual tradition for our firefighters is to
attend the Spring Brook Fire Company Cow Flop. This years support
brought the Tanker and the début of the new Engine to the 2008 parade.
Both apparatus went through the inspection process with the Jersey
Judges, being looked over from top to bottom. The tanker was lucky
enough to catch the judges eyes with much equipment, many other tankers
in the area do not carry. The only thing judges could find to deduct
points for on the tanker was jokingly a few pebbles stuck in the tires
from the parking lot. Great job guys! |

| Area Foam
Demonstration |
 |
| Tuesday, July 29,
2008 |
• With the arrival of the new engine, one
of its capabilities is the ability to introduce foam into a handline to
assist with firefighting knockdowns. This will add a new type of
firefighting to our arsenal. Firefighters were lucky enough to be
invited for their first experience using foam at a demonstration hosted
by the Elmhurst/Roaring Brook Fire Department in conjunction with
Chinchilla Hose Company & the Lackawanna County Foam Bank. Crews learned
about the Lackawanna County Foam Bank Unit and got the chance to learn
and play with some equipment that will aid in our firefighting
techniques.

It didn't take long for the demolition of unoccupied structure
located at 403 Cortez Road on Wednesday to come down. Sparrow Excavation

to the associated costs it would have taken to improve the property to
bring it up to code to be able to make any income for the company. |
